A silk saree is an investment, and most of the damage it suffers comes from storage and over-cleaning rather than wearing. A few habits make a big difference.
Air it after every wearing
Hang the saree in a shaded, well-ventilated place for a few hours before folding. Sweat and perfume trapped in the fabric are what cause odour and discolouration over time.
Fold it differently every few months
Creases that sit in the same place for too long can weaken the fibre. Refold along different lines every three to four months.
Store it in cotton, not plastic
Wrap each saree in a clean cotton or muslin cloth. Plastic traps moisture, which is a real problem in Sri Lanka's humid weather.
Dry clean only when needed
Silk does not need cleaning after every wear. Dry clean it when there is a visible stain, or after several wearings. If you are unsure, send a photo to our team and we will advise.
When it is time for a clean, our saree dry cleaning service collects from your door and brings it back pressed.
